What does PSAT stand for?

PSAT which means Preliminary SAT and is similar to the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. This test is arranged by the College Board with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation of the US. The test is organised to find out best and deserving candidates for the national scholarship.

PSAT test has been organised by the College Board since 1971 and benefited several students in completing their higher education abroad. Talking more about PSAT the test was conducted offline but from October 2023 it gets digitised for the first time.

PSAT/NMSQT Format and Score 

PSAT/NMSQT is a 2 hour and 45 minutes long test, in which 60 minutes for the reading section, 35 for the language and writing section and the remaining 70 minutes for maths are dedicated. Students will have to face 47 question in reading section, 44 in language and writing section and 48 in maths section.

While the minimum score is 320 while the maximum is 1500 for PSAT, but the scoring pattern will be similar to SAT exam, which means if you get 1200 in PSAT it is equal to scoring 1200 in SAT exam. Though SAT score lies in the range from 400 to 1600 because Sat is difficult from PSAT.

Apart from these applicants also get scored for NMSQT/PSAT selection index, which is used to scan students for National merit scholarship program. This index score has given in the range of 48 to 228.
