The thought of studying abroad can be daunting. Leaving behind your family and friends can be tough but it’s also a whole lot of different experiences which not everyone gets to live in their lifetime. Just like you there are other students from all over the world who are new to the place and need their people around. In fact once you move abroad making friends is not that tough a task. Here are a few ways which will help you make new friends
1. Look out for people going to join your University
In your last few months before moving abroad, you can start making connections by looking out for other students going to join your University. If you have enrolled through The Arijen, we have a strong community of students studying all over the world. We help new students connect with other students either from their University or people living in the town you are going to move to. You can also do it yourself with the help of social media. This gives a sense of security to the student moving abroad .
2. Do not miss orientations
Every college keeps on organizing various social events like orientations, campus dinners, social and cultural programs and city tours in the first few weeks of the college. These events act as an ice breaking session for new students. Attending them is totally recommended as you’ll end up making so many connections and friends.
3. Join a club
Every university has its in-house clubs in various fields like sports, literature, dramatics, social, photography etc. which students can join. These clubs are a great way to connect to like -minded people at the university. The clubs keep organizing events and trails wherein students can participate and experience new activities which keeps them busy in their free time.
4. Make use of social media
In today’s time we all have the best tool to socialize in our hands. Make use of social media to connect with batch mates and seniors. Follow their life updates and post about yours, this will help them keep you and them updated about your life. It makes the connection stronger.
5. Opt for student accommodation
For the first year you can opt for student accommodation as it is a great spot to make your connections easily. In a student accommodation, there are days where students keep organizing fun games night, movie nights and various other activities. This helps freshers mingle easily outside the barriers of University restrictions.
6. Let your shyness shy away
If you have planned to step out of your country then you must also let yourself open up to all the new opportunities that come your way. If you are an introvert, it might take time but slowly as you open up you’ll be able to make a lot of connections and friends. Be open to socializing with new people and remember slowly these people would make up for your comfort zone later on.
