Introduction: With fall intake deadlines just around the corner, it’s high time for students aspiring for American universities to start with their application processes. But first, it’s time to give your SAT Exam. For beginners, who are appearing for the SAT for the first time, it is important to consult a counsellor or an expert who can help you through with the registration of the exam and then with the preparation. SAT Exam takes place many times during a year, it depends on the examinee to choose a date best suited to him according to his level of preparation and the dates of application submission in the colleges.

Here are the first few steps for registering for SAT

1. Create a college board account

College board is the official website that regulates the SAT Exam. You first need to register on the website and make your account. You can do this on your own laptop or if you’re using a public laptop make sure you have logged out properly. Also make a strong password and jot it down somewhere so that you don’t forget it. The same id and password will be used to access your scores and to register for future SAT Exams if required.

2. Go to the SAT registration page

After you have successfully made your account on the website, the next step is to register for the SAT. Log in, go to the SAT suite, and then navigate to the SAT Registration page. Select the exam you want to go for and  Click the "Register Now" button. But before clicking on the register now button, you must have a look at all the dates on which the exam is taking place so that you have enough time to prepare and schedule your application.

3. Enter your personal information

The website asks for your personal information and after this tip you will have to keep a digital photo or a copy of your ID ready. These are mandatory as the test takers will check your id before you take the test. The website may also ask for your GPA, academic interests and household income.

4. Choose your Test Centre and Test Date

As easy as this step sounds, you must choose this one wisely. As it will determine your performance in the exam. Make sure you choose a date with ample time for you to prepare for the exam. Ideally, three months of preparation is a sufficient time to prepare. Now while choosing the centre, pick the one nearest to your house and easily accessible one to avoid any last minute  hassle reaching the centre.

5. Upload your photo

The photo that you upload on your website should be clear and visible. Also you must complete this step as only  the day of the exam, the examiner will compare you to the photo you have uploaded on the web. There are certain rules that you need to keep in mind while doing so, they are:

  1. Both of your eyes should be visible clearly
  2. The photo should have only you in it (the one giving the exam)
  3. The photo should not have any filters
  4. Your head must be uncovered other than religious purposes
  5. It should be a clear photo in good quality

6. Add optional services and practice materials

On the website, when you reach towards the end of the registration, you’ll come across an option which asks you to add answer services for an additional $16 and/or SAT practice material for $29.9. By adding an answer service, it lets you review answers after the test is done. You get a clear picture of what you could have done better. By ordering SAT study material, you’ll have a complete SAT guide that will help you with your preparation. But there are other websites selling that too at a cheaper price.

7. Pay and Exit

By the end, all you need to do is review your Registration Process and pay $60 to complete the SAT Registration Process.
