The ACT is an entrance test just like the Digital SAT Exam which is used by universities and colleges for the admission of foreign students.

It is an online test held by ACT Inc. It stands for American College Testing. It assess candidate's previous class knowledge in Maths, English and Science. ACT is majorly accepted by the universities of US and Canada. The act test examine the skills of a candidate by targeting for section maths, English, Reading, Science and Writing (optional).

Who can give the ACT Exam?

ACT examination is designed for high school students. But students of 6, 7, 8, and 9 grade can also apply for the exam. The minimum age  of 13 years is required to take the  examination.

ACT Exam Syllabus:

The syllabus for ACT consist of mathematics, reading, science and English 

Each section includes certain topics and on those topics questions are based on the final exam.

Mathematics Section:

The maths section targets topics like algebra which includes 

  • Elementary algebra 
  • Intermediate algebra 

Apart from these it also includes coordinate geometry and plane geometry along with trigonometry.

Reading Section:

The topics covered in reading section are

  • Natural science - it covers almost all the fields related to nature and science e.g. physics, astronomy, botany, biology, medicine, zoology, chemistry, ecology, technology, Anatomy,natural history, geology, microbiology and physiology.
  • Social studies - questions in this section are based on psychology, business, political science, geography, archeology, history, sociology, biography.
  • Narrative literature - short stories, passages from novels,essays are covered here.
  • Humanities - The questions related to art,dance,language,ethics,radio, television, architecture, philosophy and areas like these are asked.
  • Fiction - It contains sections from novels or has short stories.

Science Section:

It covers questions from topics like 

  • Data representation
  • Viewpoints 
  • Researches 

English Section:

English sections evaluates the English language skills of a candidate by covering these topics:

  • Grammar 
  • Punctuation 
  • Sentence structure 
  • Identifying the styles

and also requires rhetorical skills .

How to register for the ACT?

To attend the ACT exam an individual needs to register before the last registration date. The registration for this exam closes at least five weeks before the exams. Interested students need to keep an eye on the dates as well.

Registration Feesfor ACT Exam

  • The registration fees for act 2024 for the basic act test is $150.It doesn't include writing section
  • The registration fees with the Writing section is $166.50.
  • Fees for Indian students will be $51 
  • While if you missed the registration dates, for late registration an amount of $35 is charged
  • If you missed the last registration date too you will be charged $51 for waiting list
  • To change the test centre or date you need to pay $35 extra

ACT Exam Result:

You will get the your ACT score after two to three weeks of the exam date which can be assessed by the candidates digitally. The ACT result will be available in MY ACT website as soon as they are ready

ACT Scoring Format:

The score given to each section within the point range of 1 to 36. To get the final result your scores for each section will get averaged and the average score will be your final result. 

For essay writing the scores are given separately on the same points range of 1 to 36. The score of the ACT test is valid up to 5 years after the test date.

Time Duration for The ACT

The ACT exams have a duration of approximately 3 hours. But if you choose to take the test with Essay writing you need to give 3 hours and 35 minutes to the exam.
