First steps of preparing for SAT

SAT is your gateway to fulfil your American education dreams. Scholastic Aptitude Test is an exam conducted by the college board. Every year thousands of students appear for the exam world wide. To ace the SAT and get the desired score, one must prepare well. We at The Arijen provide SAT coaching from the best in industry experts. If you are someone who is going to appear for the exam, these five pointers will act as your first steps in your SAT journey.

1. Register for SAT

The first and foremost step includes registering for the SAT. You will need to make an account at the College Board Website. Next step is selecting location and dates. For location, we’d suggest to go for the nearest centre as you don’t want any last minute hassle reaching the location.

About dates, we suggest you think twice before selecting a date for you. If you are a first timer, giving yourself three months to prepare for the exam will be sufficient. But if you have application deadlines to meet then go for the date which suits you.

2. Get comfortable with the overall format of SAT

The total exam is of 1600 points, which is further divided into two areas, 800 points are for the math section and other 800 is for evidence-based reading and writing. The lowest qualifying score  is 400 points (200 on each section).

3. Diagnose your skill

After you are familiar with the exam pattern you now need to work on your skills and weaknesses. Each section has its bonus areas where you can score more. You just need to identify where you can scoop out the maximum marks for yourself. This trick will only come by taking practice tests.

4. Familiarise yourself with instruction

To be clear, we would not suggest you waste your time reading and understanding instruction on the exam day. It is therefore highly suggested to read and understand the instructions of the exam beforehand so that you get straight on to solving the question paper.

5. Take as many practice tests as possible

As we all know, practice makes man perfect, similarly one should appear for practice tests often. We at Arijen keep conducting mock SATs so as to give our students a fair idea of the exam day environment and about what to expect on the exam day. By taking tests and reviewing yourself you can prepare better.
