Blocked Account for Germany Student Visa: Everything You Need to Know

  • By Admin

The blocked account has enough credit to cover the costs needed for the time you planned your stay in Germany.

One of the mandatory demands for having a visa for study and work in Germany is to lock a certain amount of money. This signifies to the authorities that you have enough funds to survive in Germany, which eventually gives them confidence to grant you the German visa. This defined sum should be collected into a bank account termed as a Blocked Account.

In January 2023, the amount required to be collected into the blocked account, when a student applied for a German student visa was €934 per month. However, as stated in studying-in-germany.org, starting from September 2024, there will be a surge in fee to €992 a month. An additional amount of €696 for a year.

Germany's student financial aid program, The BAföG rate, serves as a benchmark. A student needs to have the least amount of money required in his/her blocked account to make himself/herself eligible for student visa in Germany. Monthly limit also applies to the amount which you can withdraw or transfer, only in case you have more than the minimum required amount.
