Canada to revise post graduation work program to cop labour shortage

From 1 September 2024, the students of private colleges will not get automatically eligible for work permits as Canada is about to revise the post graduation work permit programme,to help sectors facing labour shortage. 

Which directly affects Indian students as Indian students are enrolled in Canada in huge numbers.

Currently there are approximately 8 lakhs of foreign students and out of which 40% students are Indian.

The PGWP is a great option for international students to get permanent residential status and work permit in Canada which leads to a 214% rise in students in the year 2023 compared to 2018.

As per the IRCC, the govt. Is aiming to reduce the overall number of Work permit holders in Canada to sync the labour needs with linking the program with areas having labour shortage.

The rules were introduced by IRCC on 22 January 2024, to reduce the PGWP eligible students.

While the students of master programs are  willing to qualify for their work permit after completing their three year degree.

The goal of the Canadian government is to establish employment in those areas which are facing labour shortage and reduce students from other study programs.
