The govt. of Canada cleared their vision about international students by saying that studying in Canada is not a guarantee of having permanent citizenship.
Minister of Immigration, Citizenship and Refugees Mr. Marc Miller Mentioned in a Bloomberg interview that study visas do not guarantee PR, said - individuals should come here education and return back to their home country with those skills, he also admitted that this is not the case as of now.
Canada's strict immigration Policies Amid Housing Crisis:
The Canadian government is allowing individuals to stay based on the work needs in the Country. The country seems less inviting now and that student visas are now providing more in comparison to Permanent residentship, noted by the minister. The action turns into concern that the rush of foreign students contributes a huge amount in shelter costs and it eventually affects the housing sector.
Miller also refers that the positive agreement around immigration in Canada is destroying.
Few Experts including Ravi Jain (Toronto-based immigration lawyer), put his point that if the Canadian government is serious about this change, it restrict themselves in promoting studying as a direct path to PR via Express Entry. The lawyer recommends restricting the practice of immigration law to only qualified lawyers to ensure accurate guidance.
Canada Faces adverse reaction over overseas Student Policy:
The situation might lead to the “mass ejection” of more than 70,000 foreign students taken charge by the Naujawan Support Network. They underline the restrictive and unpredictable nature of the PR route, leading to protests in different areas of countries like Ontario, Manitoba, and Prince Edward Island.
In the year 2023, Ottawa projects permits to as many as 300,000 students in 2024, from 437,000. From May 2024, data from Immigration department of Canada reflects 216,620 study permits being issued. In the first quarter of 2024, issue of study permits exceeded by over 187,510 compared to 2023. With Indian students receiving a major chunk of it.
