Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), one of Ireland’s premier universities, has once again secured the highest graduate employment rate in the country. For the second year in a row, TUS graduates have demonstrated outstanding employability, solidifying the university’s reputation for academic excellence and industry-aligned education.
TUS Maintains Top Graduate Employment Rate:
Professor Vincent Cunnane, President of TUS, emphasized the university’s commitment to student success:
“This outstanding employability rate is a testament to our students and the quality of education they receive at TUS. Our programmes are developed in collaboration with employers, ensuring that graduates are fully prepared to meet the evolving demands of the modern workforce. This approach fosters a virtuous cycle, benefiting both regional and national economies.”
Seamus Hoyne, Dean of Flexible and Work-Based Learning and Director of Industry Engagement at TUS, highlighted the vital role industry partnerships play:
“Working with industry partners has been invaluable in shaping our Careers and Employability Service. Each year, our service coordinates over 2,500 work placements, helping students connect with leading employers and ensuring our graduates remain highly sought-after in the job market.”
TUS Graduates: Unmatched Employment Success:
According to the 2023 Higher Education Authority (HEA) Graduate Outcomes Survey, 81% of TUS honours degree graduates are employed, surpassing the national average of 76.5%. The survey further reveals:
73% of undergraduate students secure permanent contracts.
The majority of TUS graduates earn between €35,000 – €39,000 per annum.
5% of graduates in Construction, Manufacturing, and Engineering start with salaries ranging between €70,000 – €79,999.
90% of TUS taught and research postgraduates find employment within nine months of graduation.
TUS has also introduced a university-wide Careers & Employability Service, further enhancing students' career prospects and industry engagement.
Former President of Ireland Advocates for Heritage Conservation:
In a significant development, former President of Ireland, Mary Robinson, has called on building and conservation experts to take the lead in historic building renovation. Speaking at a recent event, Robinson emphasized the importance of preserving Ireland’s architectural heritage:
“Our buildings, our heritage, our story, and our identity must be sustainably managed. They serve as vital symbols of hope and continuity. Today’s collaboration between the public and private sectors is exactly the kind of coordinated effort needed to drive real change.”
Professor Vincent Cunnane echoed these sentiments, emphasizing TUS’s role in addressing skills gaps in heritage conservation:
“At TUS, collaboration is at the core of our mission. Our partnership with the OPW, Limerick City and County Council, and private sector bodies enables us to train professionals in retrofitting historical buildings while leveraging international best practices. This initiative not only enhances the skill sets of participants but also strengthens Ireland’s capacity for heritage conservation.”
Through these initiatives, TUS continues to lead the way in higher education, employment success, and sustainable heritage preservation, reinforcing its impact on Ireland’s future.
