Two Switzerland university to raise tuition fees by 2025

EPFL And ETH Zurich likely to Raise Tuition Fees For foreign Students from session 2025. Switzerland universities have already declared their plans to raise the fees for international students from 2025 for EPFL and ETH Zurich university.

As per the news reports of. Schengen.News, students for the upcoming session will have to bear three time fees expenses for bachelor and master degree courses.

Impact on overseas student

As of now, ETH Zurich and EPFL charges about €749.42 per semester for both overseas and Swiss students. However, it is said that this new approach will draw a significant number of foreign students, with the aim of having almost the same expenses for studenting and cost of living in Switzerland. 

As per the news of Schengen 

Governing body of ETH Zurich's,the ETH Board, had first opposed the decision to increase fees, by pointing to the value of  attracting top talent. However, this reconsideration on the issue  has been brought by pressure from the Federal Parliament with the requirement for the immediate adoption of new financing models.

Above 7,300 overseas students at ETH Zurich approximately 35% of  overall international students. EPFL, with  13,000 students, has about 50% of foreign students enrolled.

The ETH Board has proposed an idea to link tuition fees with the national consumer price index. This action aims to balance revenue generated from fees over time with ensuring the financial sustainability for these institutes.

The Swiss Federal Statistical Office currently reported , No. of enrollment of overseas students upto 76,257 across all higher education institutions, with a majority of pursuing Bachelor’s degrees.

Furthermore in the discussions in the Swiss Parliament, the  decision on tuition fee is expected to be finalised by the end of this year, which will have an  impact on students planning to pursue studies in  Switzerland from 2025.
